Slot Myths
They will hold you back
When we started playing slots, we lost. Big. When we got home we searched on YouTube for advice. We paid attention and went back to Vegas a month later. And lost. Big.
Are All YouTube Slot Tips Fake?
No, but most are. There’s a lot of questionable “advice” from “slot experts” floating around, and unfortunately it hurts average gamblers the most.
Luckily, fakes are easy to spot.
ONE: A SLOT METHOD HAS TO BE REPEATABLE
When you’re watching a YouTube video that offers advice, ask yourself whether the person giving you the advice demonstrates his/her “strategy” in multiple videos. If the answer is no, they’re likely doing what marketers call “reversing into a win” which is when you capitalize on a chance event by claiming that it was due to some brilliant plan. Here’s an example:
- I hit a jackpot after 10 spins
- I then record an intro saying that I used the “10-spin guaranteed jackpot method”
- In the edit, I put the intro before the jackpot and—voila!—I’m a slot expert with a magical slot method
TWO: THE SLOT METHOD NEEDS TO WORK FOR EVERYONE
It’s no use having a slot strategy if you’re the only one that can make it work.
WHY YOU NEED TO STAY SKEPTICAL
Listening to bad YouTube slot advice cost us thousands of dollars when we started gambling. We created our slot channel SlotBears to help others avoid this costly mistake.
If you look at the thumbnail of the video below, you can see that we’re focus on the wins we had while playing slots, not a “secret method” that will magically turn a game of chance into a game of skill.
Wild claims are just that
YouTube encourages people to exaggerate to get view.
Keep the following in mind:
Slot machines are a game of chance, which means that they require no special skills in order to win. It’s analogous to someone claiming that they’ve found the “strategy” to flipping a coin or finding a parking spot.
The same is true of “industry insiders” that claim to know the secrets of a slot machine, when what they really mean is that they’re going to read you the rules of a slot. The first time I saw this, I thought it was the dumbest thing I’d ever seen—then I noticed that the video had 80K views and 200 likes!
Our approach
If you’ve watched our YouTube videos, you’ll know that we respect our viewers’ intelligence. Slots are fun, which is why we play them. Losing sucks, which is why we try to win. Pretty simple.
We only watch two YouTube slot channels: Jackpot Judo and DLucky. Both of these influencers never claim to know a secret strategy and both demonstrate over and over that their respective methods work. Dlucky is the reason we hit an $8,500 jackpot in the high limits room on our first attempt. Jackpot Judo is the reason we started coming home with a profit.
More to come
In future articles, we’ll be busting specific myths.
We’ve already attempted to kill the “time of day” myth once and for all. The “time of day” myth is that slot machines pay (or don’t pay) at specific time periods during the day, for example during mealtimes. All of our early videos are timestamped so you know exactly when we were playing a machine.
Summary
Slot channels do tell the truth in one respect: they are entertainment, not financial advice. When you go see a film about Wall Street, you wouldn’t take what you see and modify your stock portfolio. Look at slot videos the same way and you’ll be much happier.
