MGM Gold Tier, Year 3 - Still worth it?
This is our third year as MGM Gold members. Is it still worth gambling $75,000 to get?
MGM Gold Tier: What is it?
Almost every casino offers a loyalty program. You gamble, and the casino rewards you to gamble more. I really believe that it’s one of the few modern loyalty programs that’s actually worth chasing.
Why We Chose MGM
We chose MGM’s loyalty program because we like their resort properties and they offer sophisticated online tools.
We aren’t recommending that you chose MGM, since everyone’s needs are different. We also belong to Caesars and about 15 other loyalty programs…and our mailbox can prove it.
MGM Gold Tier
MGM Gold is the middle tier in the MGM Rewards, MGM’s loyalty program. It requires 75,000 tier credits (you get one tier credit per dollar gambled, so your coin-in will need to be $75,000). The first year, we got it using a $2,000 bankroll.
Here’s are the MGM tiers:
- MGM Sapphire: 0-19,999
- MGM Pearl: 20,000 – 74,999
- MGM Gold: 75,000 – 199,999
- MGM Platinum: 200,000 and above
- MGM Noir: Invitation only
Was MGM Gold Tier worth it?
Yes. It’s the only way we can afford to have a slot channel.
What were the benefits?
Here are the tier benefits that we care about in rank order:
- Free hotel rooms: First and foremost are free hotel rooms. We received about $36,000 in free hotel rooms in 2025.
- Priority check-in: We LOVE this perk. Almost all MGM resorts have a separate check-in desk for Gold tier and above. At Bellagio, this can save you 30 mins.
- Freeplay: At the beginning of the year, we received $375 per trip. That dropped to $130 in Dec 2025. We’re fine with that.
- No resort fee: An instant $40-60 per night benefit
- $100 “celebration” reward credit We usually use this for a splurge dinner, but it can apply to any room charge.
- Free cruise: So, this is probably the best benefit for a lot of people, but we aren’t cruise people.
- 20% Slot Dollar bonus: While you gamble with your loyalty card inserted, you’re given a form a freeplay called “Slot Dollars”. Gold tier gets a 20% bonus.
- Holiday Gift Shoppe points: These can buy items, but we used it to get $150 in additional freeplay
- Free parking: We rarely rent a car, so this isn’t very useful
The "secret" is posted on the walls
Our total coin-in at MGM casinos in 2025 was about $136,000. “Coin-in” refers to the total amount of money wagered.
Coin-in has nothing to do with wins or losses. It’s only the amount of money you wager. If you bet $10 and win $100 then your coin-in is $10. If you gamble $10 more and win a $1,000, your coin-in is $20 since that’s the amount you bet.
Our bankroll is between $2,000 – $4,000 per trip, so we pushed our entire bankroll through the slots about 34 times because we have a slot channel,. This wasn’t as difficult as it may sound.
MGM Daily Tier Accelerators
Our “secret” is to take advantage of MGM Daily Tier Accelerators, a geat program that a lot of people don’t know about.
MGM Daily Tier Accelerators give bonus tier credits if you gamble at least $5,000 in a 24-hour period. The minimum bonus is 1,250 tier credits, or a 25% premium.
Using tier accelerators, your coin-in only needs to be $56,250. Yes, that’s still a lot, but if you make several trips to Vegas every year or have a large bankroll, it’s completely do-able.
2025 MGM Rewards Changes
December Promotion
MGM Rewards ran a special promotion for the first time in 2025. If you visited Vegas in December, you could earn 100% or more of the milestone. For example, if you earned 5,000 tier credits in 24-hours, you got 5,000 bonus tier credits.
Did we take advantage of this? Yes. We hit 125,000 tier credits which has additional benefits.
New Tier Milestones
This year, MGM added tier milestones. Basically it’s to encourage customers who reach a tier to continue gambling.
We hit the 125,000 milestone. That starts us out with 25,000 tier credits in 2026, so we only need another 50,000 tier credits to get gold for the following year.
